License to Cruise

Friday, September 23, 2016
6:00 - 9:30 p.m.

Each year, more than 50,000 people walk College Avenue and enjoy the 400+ classic cars, live music and great food from local restaurants. This year's feature vehicle is Mopar, and they will be in front of City Center Plaza. Special this year ... we are happy to present an amazing collection of Mopar vehicles inside the Fox Valley Performing Arts Center (PAC).  These will include rare and award winning Plymouth, Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep/Willys vehicles valued at over $20 million.  To see the collection, enter the PAC at Division Street.

What is Mopar?

The term was first used by Chrysler in the 1920s and was introduced as a brand starting in 1937.  The term “Mopar” has passed into broader usage among car enthusiasts as an unambiguous reference to the parent company Chrysler Group LLC.

The term has thus become an inclusive word for any Chrysler-built vehicle... most any DodgeChryslerPlymouthImperialDeSoto or Dodge Trucks/Ram, plus Jeeps vehicles built after Chrysler's 1987 buyout of American Motors (including the short-lived Eagle brand) and, since 2011, Fiat and Alfa Romeo following Fiat's takeover of Chrysler. InCanada, these were sold under the Chryco and AutoPar brands until the Mopar brand was phased into that nation's market, starting in the late 1970s.

Live music from the Doo Wop Daddies (in Houdini Plaza ... corner of College Ave. & Appleton St.) starts at 6:00 p.m., and streetcorner entertainers throughout College Avenue in Appleton's downtown.

This is a non-alcoholic event.

Valley Transit is offering $.25 fares on regular routes during Friday night's License to Cruise beginning at 3:45 p.m. Also on Friday night from 5:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. there will be $.25 fares special park & ride shuttles to/from the following locations:  Fox Valley Technical College, Goodwill Industries (Appleton Road, Menasha - Please do not park in front of retail store!), Appleton East High School (Schaefer Street lot),  and Valley Packaging (Roemer Road location).

All Valley Transit rides will drop off and reload at the Transit Center on Washington Street (next to the Appleton Public Library).
